           EI is a key indicator of human performance and development potential, which can be improved and developed with practice.  The first step in developing an improvement plan is to accurately assess your current performance level.  The EQ-i 2.0 is a scientifically validated and reliable assessment that has been used for decades to accurately measure an individual's emotional intelligence.  The results of this assessment can be used to provide insight into current performance gaps and recommendations for performance improvement.

      <title>Legacy of Loyalty</title>

          It started out like any other day.  I arrived early at the office hoping to get a jump start on my long to- do list.  As with any normal day, you can never predict the unscheduled events that will pop up.  Today I was notified that a long-term employee in the hospital had received a devastating terminable diagnosis.  I set my to-do list aside and my focus turned toward assisting the family in their time of need.  It turned out this employee, although in pain and feeling very sick, was worried about one thing:  She was only weeks away from celebrating her 35th work anniversary and she was worried that she wouldn’t be out of the hospital in time to receive her 35-year anniversary pin.  Knowing how important this was to her, the Leadership team immediately sprang into action, and we arranged to have her service award ceremony at the hospital as soon as possible.  Later that day, with her family by her bedside, her leadership team was able to present her service award pin to her.   Her pin was proudly attached to her hospital gown and her framed certificate was on the stand next to her bed.  Although she was unable to speak, the smile on her face told us how much the moment meant to her.  Sadly, she passed away three days later.  
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      
           The loyalty and commitment that this employee felt toward her employer amazed me.  I couldn’t help but wonder how an employee could feel such a sense of loyalty during such a difficult time.  She was a front-line employee that had dedicated 35 years of her life to the service of her company- to her this wasn’t just a job; it was part of her identity.  I remember many conversations with her throughout her career; she often spoke about the owners of the company making her feel appreciated. She didn’t always like changes that occurred throughout her career, but she trusted leadership and felt they cared for her as a person.  She was very proud of the fact that she was a valued member of the team.
          &#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          I am grateful for the legacy of this employee and for the valuable lesson that she taught us about leadership- it is about the personal connection you make with your employees and how you make them feel.  Creating loyalty is about building people up, celebrating their strengths, and doing everything you can to help them be successful in whatever role they play for your organization.  
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          The world is full of turbulence and employers are facing many workforce challenges, but today I’m choosing to be thankful that the world is full of dedicated and loyal employees that are the foundation of everything we have accomplished in the past and everything we will accomplish in the future.  We can learn a lot about being great leaders when we are humble, connected, grateful, and generous with praise.

          There will continue to be fewer people that make up our workforce.  This is due, in part to our aging population.  By 2030 all Baby Boomers will be at least 65 years old, resulting in an increase of at least 300 million more people over the age of 65.  As this aging population leaves the workforce it will cause a decline in the number of available workers.  This also correlates to an estimated 50-85 million more healthcare positions needed to care for our aging population.

           Shifting/Realignment of Workers Within Occupational Groups

    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;

          We will continue to see rise and falls in multiple industries due to many factors.  Research shows that 40-50% of the jobs that exist today did not exist 4 years ago, and in the next 4 years those remaining jobs will likely change as well.

          In order to meet future staffing needs, organizations need to be flexible and open to employees with a variety of skillsets and experiences.           A continued focus on technology and automation will impact the workforce and the skills that are needed.  Self-service options will continue to grow and expand, impacting many industries.  Development and deployment of technology related jobs is estimated to create 20-50 million more jobs globally, and automation efforts could also cause a displacement of 400-800 million jobs

          To really understand how someone else feels you must be fully conscious and engaged in your interactions with them.  This consists of eliminating any potential distractions and taking time to mentally focus your full attention on the interaction.

    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Listen:

  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;

           Practice intentional active listening

          Empathy is not just about hearing and understanding the words spoken, it is about understanding the non-verbal cues that tell us how someone is feeling.  Maintain eye contact, and pay close attention to gestures, body language, facial expressions, and tone of voice as indicators of how another person feels.

            Understand your Bias:

           Your own emotional state can alter how receptive you are to empathizing with others. Taking a mental note of your own state of mind is important to ensure you can openly receive information from others in an empathetic way.  If you feel defensive, judgmental, distracted, rushed, or stressed this will hinder your ability to authentically engage in the interaction and your empathy will suffer.

           Embrace Differences:

           We all have our own thoughts, beliefs, and opinions that can get in the way of our empathy.  Before engaging in a conversation with someone, make a conscious decision to be open to new thoughts and ideas. This doesn’t mean you have to agree with them but listening to them will create a bond of trust and collaboration.

           Self-Expression is a part of emotional intelligence that involves openly expressing our emotions (verbal and non-verbal) with others in an open and appropriate way.  We are constantly giving and receiving emotional information as we interact with others.  Sometimes this is done at a subconscious level.  People who have effective self-expression skills do a good job of expressing appropriate emotions and using that information to make wise choices.

          (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, Time Bound) – Setting SMART goals will help set you up for success.  When your goals are unrealistic (or you expect a perfect outcome), you will likely be disappointed if those goals aren’t achieved.  Remember, successfully completing a goal will give you a sense of satisfaction and pride.

           e EQ-i2.0 model consists of 5 scales broken into 15 subscales. These scales interact and build upon each other to determine our overall EI.

  &lt;p&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;span&gt;&#xD;
      &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;/span&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/p&gt;&#xD;
&lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
&lt;div data-rss-type="text"&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;b&gt;&#xD;
    
          How do we measure our EI?
         &#xD;
  &lt;/b&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    
          We can very accurately measure EI through an
assessment called the EQ i 2.0. The EQ i 2.0 is a self
assessment that consists of 133 questions and takes
approximately 30 minutes to complete.
         &#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
    &lt;b&gt;&#xD;
      
           How do we improve our EI?

    &lt;/b&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;/div&gt;&#xD;
  &lt;div&gt;&#xD;
